The murder of a Police Chief leads Willows and Brown to Miami ("Cross Jurisdictions"), in the second season of CSI. The Las Vegas CSIs investigate another series of gruesome, unprecedented, and unsolvable crimes, including the murder of the son of a Las Vegas mogul ("Burked"), the disappearance of a University student ("Chaos Theory"), the death of a construction worker ("Overload"), the discovery of a decomposed body in a bag ("Bully for You"), a scuba diver discovered up a tree in the desert ("Scuba Doobie-Doo"), a fetish murder ("Slaves of Las Vegas"), and a death at a spa ("Alter Boys"). Meanwhile, Catherine and Sara investigate both a suspected suicide-by-train ("Caged") and a homicide at a remote convenience store ("And Then There Were None"), Warrick is given the opportunity to head the crime lab ("Ellie"), Grissom and Willows come to face to face with a serial killer in a courtroom ("Identity Crisis"), and Nick studies the death of a woman who drowned in the desert ("Anatomy of a Lye"), after finding himself the target of a stalker ("Stalker").
With the night-time supervisor out on maternity leave, Greg could conceivably be there for the remainder of the season. After all, his "book" is not going anywhere fast. And he would certainly add some much-needed humor to the lab.
Helgenberger is back as Catherine in Season 2. The first season saw Gil and Sara return to their old stomping ground when their friend and former colleague, Jim Brass (Paul Guilfoyle), was attacked and Hodges ended up the prime suspect in the season-long case. In the series premiere, we learned Catherine was in Dublin (with her grandchild). So what will bring her back to Vegas? Will it be the new villain introduced in the Season 1 finale? Could it be connected to one of her old cases? Could it be another case that brings her to Vegas, then she decides to stick around to help out at the Crime Lab?
And actually, I think what the writers have done introducing Marg back in, and the reasons as to why she's there, and how she helps with the lab, is amazing, actually. And that is sort of a story that I think it's what is wonderful about this season two. Like fair enough, you've got your weekly case. But there's a beautiful and gripping over-arcing story of the whole season.
On CSI: Vegas, Helgenberger succeeds fellow original CSI cast members William Petersen and Jorja Fox who were series regulars in Season 1 of the sequel to the mothership series. Her casting allows CSI: Vegas to maintain its connection to the 2000 series with a beloved original character working alongside the new forensic investigators. With Petersen, Fox and Helgenberger, CSI: Vegas also has set a blueprint for event-izing each season with a different original star, which also fits into the new format of the series as each season is tackling a new serialized mystery.
When CSI: Vegas season 2 premiered it looked a little different without two of its biggest stars. The first season set up the spinoff of the original series, but moving forward it will be a whole new era for the show.

The trailer for CSI: Vegas features a killer on the loose whose crimes seem to be a link to the past. One thing's for sure: the stakes are higher than ever in season 2. The team will need to use the holy trinity of crime solving if they're going to figure out the mysteries in season 2.
Additionally, Jorja Fox, who currently plays Sara Sidle on CSI: Vegas, reprising her role from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, is also not confirmed for the second season. However, producers are hopeful that Fox will return as her contract allows her to continue in her role as Sidle if she chooses. The latest CSI show also stars Paula Newsome, Matt Lauria, Mandeep Dhillon, and Mel Rodriquez, and follows a talented team of investigators as they deal with a threat to their crime lab that could release thousands of convicted killers back onto the streets of Vegas.
The first season of CSI: Vegas aired in the 10 PM slot on Wednesdays during its run, and the entire first season is currently streaming on Paramount+. The second season of the CBS show is expected to air during the 2022/2023 broadcast season.
CSI: Vegas just locked in a familiar face from the original CSI Universe, Eric Szmanda. Though details about his return are still under wraps, the fan favorite is set to reprise his role as CSI tech Greg Sanders during the second season and will appear in several episodes.
And the CSI OGs aren't the first to make a comeback. In season one of CSI: Vegas, Jorja Fox and William Petersen reprised their respective roles of Sara Sidle and Gil Grissom, but later exited after the first season of the reboot.
CSI: Vegas returned two favorites, William Petersen's Gil Grissom and Jorja Fox's Sara Sidle, for its first season and when the sophomore installment rolls around, it will be bringing Marg Helgenberger's beloved CSI character, Catherine Willows, into the fray. The CBS update, which brings the action back to where it all started, follows a new Crime Lab team, headed by Maxine Roby (Paula Newsome), as they solve cases using forensic science. 781b155fdc
